If you’ve been looking for something to fill the arena shooter void in your life, Diabotical Rogue might just be the answer.
As shown off as part of theFuture Game Show, the online first-person shooter takes the fast-paced combat you may remember from 2020’s Diabotical and meshes it with some roguelike upgrades for good measure.
You enter each scrap with the option of three base suits: The Scout comes with hookshot capabilities and can use a machine gun, revolver, heavy sniper, or shotgun; The Chunk can leap and slam into enemies and wield the rocket launcher, heavy machinegun, shaft, or blaster; and, perhaps best of all, is the Eggbot who can heal and carry the sub machinegun, e-pistol, crossbow, or machinegun.
The wonderfully round Eggbots look like a nod to the original Diabotical game released four years ago. In that universe, they would travel from planet to planet and transform any interesting location into a battle arena so they could have a good ol' scrap. They appear different this time, though we can only hope their penchant for dueling remains.
At the time of writing, Diabotical Rogue has confirmed a four-on-four wipeout game mode. The basics are that you want to eliminate the enemy team until you win, though be warned that dying will see your respawn timer increase – meaning things could get wooly fast. You’re also getting a map editor to unleash your own creations on your friends. As to what else is coming, though, we need only wait and see.
Diabotical Rogue is out now in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
