Deadpool and Wolverine reviews
In ourDeadpool and Wolverine review, we gave the Marvel movie an impressive 4-star rating. We truly feel that this movie signals a return to form in the MCU writing: “The MCU’s self-appointed messiah might not have pulled off a complete course correction, but he delivers an action-packed, gag-stuffed crowd-pleaser that gives the franchise a much needed lift.”At the time of writing, critics seem to largely agree with our opinion, as Deadpool and Wolverine currently holds an 81% onRotten Tomatoes. However, there are also plenty of negative reviews. The Independentcalled the film “tedious,” whileThe Hollywood Reporterdescribed it as “messy and overstuffed.”
Only time will tell if the flick manages to maintain its high score once more reviews filter in. So, stay tuned as we keep you updated on all the Marvel discourse!
Deadpool and Wolverine release date
Deadpool and Wolverine arrived in UK cinemas onJuly 25, before hopping over the pond to US theaters onJuly 26.
This was a slight delay from its original release date of May 2024, caused by production pushbacks from theSAG-AFTRA strikesandWGA strikeslast summer. However, it still remains the only MCU cinema release in 2024, which is quite a big change for Marvel boss Kevin Feige.

The first Deadpool and Wolverine video promo was released during the 2024 Super Bowl giving usour first R-rated look at Wade Wilson’s return. Not only did it reveal some teases about the film’s plot, but it was also stacked full of hidden nods to the wider MCU. Check out ourDeadpool trailer Easter eggsround-up for all of the ones we spotted, from a shout-out toAvengers: Secret Warsto what all those Loki links could mean.
A second trailerwas shown exclusively to guests at CinemaCon 2024. Like the first, it boasted plenty of gore and violence, limp dick jokes, and it gave us our first look atCassandra Nova, too. Of course all these trailers don’t even reveal half of Deadpool and Wolverine’s surprises, so make sure that you check out the movie for yourself as well!
Deadpool and Wolverine plot
While we don’t want to get into too many spoilers, the Deadpool and Wolverine plot is packed with timeline implications. So, before we get into the nitty, gritty details, here is your light spoiler warning: turn back now if you haven’t seen the film yet!If you’re still here, let’s get into it! Deadpool and Wolverine focuses on the question of timeline integrity. What are the implications of all the Marvel movies from the past prior to the MCU? Well, Deadpool finds out once his new life as a car salesman is disrupted by a visit from the TVA. Wade Wilson discovers that his timeline is in trouble thanks to the fact that theanchor beingthat kept his universe alive is dead. Who is that anchor being, you asked? It’s Logan, aka Mister Wolverine. Yes, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is back following his supposed death in Logan (read ourLogan reviewif you need a refresher), and this time, he’s got a veryintriguing yellow suit on.In order to save everyone he cares about, Deadpool must travel through multiple timelines, recruit Wolverine before his world ceases to exist, and fight his way through plenty of discarded MCU villains.Cassandra Nova, Professor Xavier’s bald-headed twin sister, is the main big bad who the duo must face if they have any hopes of saving their timeline. Now, there are plenty of cameos and Deadpool andWolverine variantsthat pop up that truly make this film special. If you are interested in those faces and names be sure to head to our guides on them, as we don’t want to put any major spoilers in here. What we can tell you is that Deadpool and Wolverine’s plot takes place largely during March 2024 in the current timeline. And that the ending of Logan (aka one of thebest X-Men moviesof all time) is still canon, at least for one Wolverine variant. So, you can still watch all of Fox’sX-Men movies in orderwith peace of mind.
Deadpool and Wolverine cast
The Deadpool and Wolverine cast is stacked. Seriously, just about everyone makes an appearance here. That means most of the X-Men mutants and even Reynolds' real-life wife, Blake Lively, are linked to the project. But aside from some cameos that we’ll leave out for spoiler’s sake, here’s the full cast list made by Marvel:
There are plenty of other big names that take on either Deadpool or Wolverine variants, too. These range from Blake Lively, Henry Cavill, Matthew Mcconaughey, and more
But as is usually the case with thebest superhero movies, there are also some Marvel heroes from pre-MCU days that fans will be delighted to see again. So keep your eyes peeled during your watch through!
